Meet in the parking lot of the Rood Government Center, 950 Maidu Ave., Nevada City (just off Hwy 49) at 7:00 AM. This is an all day trip with some walking on level ground. Sierra Valley is located on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada encircled by the towns of Sierraville, Loyalton and Portola. In spring its environs offer suitable habitat for many interesting species. Species to expect include White-faced Ibis, Horned Larks, Western Tanager, Virginia Rail, Sora, Wilson’s Phalarope, Sandhill Crane, Willet, Wilson’s Snipe, Yellow-headed Blackbird, Marsh Wren, Vesper Sparrows and more. Bring lunch, water, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
