Meet at the Indian Hill Park and Ride off the Indian Hill/Newcastle exit on I-80 at 8:00 AM, or at the Nimbus Fish Hatchery parking lot at 8:30 AM. Please let me know if you will be going directly to the Fish Hatchery. We will be walking a flat loop trail along the riparian habit of the American River. We should see Belted Kingfishers, Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets, Black-crowned Night- Herons, Double-crested Cormorants, various ducks, towhees, sparrows, and more. This is the time of year Chinook Salmon run. The hatchery raises them here and once they become breeding adults they return to where they were hatched. It’s fun to watch them leap up the fish ladder “waterfall”. The hatchery itself is open and there are docents to explain the process of “milking” the eggs and silt for the next year’s hatch. If weather is questionable contact leader.
