Do you love birds? Are you interested in knowing more about them? Join the SFAS Education Team for another evening of fun and interactive discussions in our ongoing series FOR THE LOVE OF BIRDS.
We will be discussing our favorite winter backyard birds. And, because it is winter, and that attracts a wonderful variety of visiting waterbirds, we are expanding our horizons a bit and going beyond our backyards. Let’s take a look at our fabulous winter waterfowl and discuss where to go to see them on lakes and ponds in our local area and in the Sacramento Valley. We will also spend some time learning to identify winter visitors to our local backyard feeders and help you learn to recognize them with fun quiz bird IDs.
Nora and Bruce Kirk from Wild Birds Unlimited will speak with us about the importance of feeding birds in winter and demonstrate the types of feeders that best attract various bird visitors. They will also discuss how to maintain feeders and keep them safe for birds in changeable weather.
For individuals interested in getting nest boxes for the spring breeding season, SFAS will have a supply of nest boxes available, along with information about monitoring boxes and becoming a part of our SFAS Bluebird Nest Box Monitoring Team.
You will also have the opportunity to visit tables for a hands-on look at birdfeeders, maps for viewing winter waterfowl, and bluebird nest boxes. We will have snacks available. We look forward to seeing you.
