Leader: Craig Swolgaard  email:, cell: 530-334-3023

This trip is at about 1500 feet near the town of Cool, and includes a variety of foothill habitats including oak woodland, ponds, grassland, and riparian areas. The trails are fairly level and in good condition. Late April is a good time to see spring migrants, wildflowers and butterflies. It is not unusual to see 30 – 40 species of bird on this walk. There are occasional surprises like Lazuli Bunting and Chipping Sparrows and migrant flycatchers are regular. Enrollment is limited to 8 people. Directions to the meeting site will be given when registering with Craig. Bring water and snacks. You may want to wear boots for crossing some muddy creeks.
